Inquiry into Catholic priest’s gay porn display ‘inconclusive’

The inquiry into how a Catholic priest in Northern Ireland came to accidentally display images of gay porn to a room of primary school parents has been called ‘inconclusive’.

Father Martin McVeigh had inserted a memory stick into a computer at St Mary’s Primary School in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone last month.

Instead of instructions for their child’s first Holy Communion, however, parents were confronted with 16 images of gay porn.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, a meeting with parishioners in Co Tyrone on Friday at which the initial findings of the Archdiocese of Armagh’s investigation were read out proved “inconclusive”.

A spokesman for the Catholic Church said: “A meeting took place in the Parish of Pomeroy, Co Tyrone, between parents and representatives of the Archdiocese of Armagh.

“The outcome of the meeting was inconclusive. There will be a further meeting at a time, date and venue to be confirmed by the parish of Pomeroy.

“Father Martin McVeigh, at his own request, has asked for temporary leave and Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishop of Armagh, has agreed to this request without prejudice to any of the parties involved.

“No further comment will be issued at this time.”

Some parishioners issued a statement last week highlighting Fr McVeigh’s good works in the community, saying the priest had “helped many people through times of difficulty and sadness and many parishioners have expressed their gratitude and thanks for the help that he gave them over these times”.
