Welsh gay couple scoop £1million EuroMillions jackpot
A Welsh gay couple are in shock after a lottery win of £1million.
Civil servant Ian Pearce, 45, and physiotherapist Lyn Sexton, 41, bought the EuroMillions ticket on a whim before they went away for a caravanning weekend in West Wales.
Mr Sexton said: “It’s an overwhelming feeling. Ian and I already feel lucky as we have a nice lifestyle and we’ve had the chance to travel the world together.”
The couple, who have been together for 16 years, picked up their winnings at the castle where they tied the knot in a civil ceremony six years ago.
They are thought to be the first gay couple in Wales to become lottery millionaires, but Mr Sexton does not seem bothered about claiming the title.
“If we are the first then that’s fine, but I don’t see it as a sexuality thing,” he said. “It’s about the win and we just want to make Wales proud.”
Both men plan to go back to work and take a year out to decide what to do with the money in the long-term. Until then, they have booked holidays to Egypt and Jamaica with their families and plan to pay off their mortgage.
