Video: White House unveils Pride month video challenge finalists
The White House Office of Public Engagement has unveiled six finalists for its LGBT Pride Month Video Challenge to honour local community leaders in the US.
To celebrate June as Pride Month, the White House sought to uncover those stories through the Champions of Change Video Challenge.

Finalists be invited to the White House this summer for a Champions of Change event.
JJ Kahle
The White House said: ‘JJ Kahle has led the Gay Straight Alliance at The Blake School in Minneapolis for the past 12 years. Her tireless advocacy and leadership of the GSA has helped transform Blake’s environment into one where being homophobic is “uncool”.’
Heather Carter, Youth Suicide Prevention Program
‘As Training Director and OUTLoud Program Director of the Youth Suicide Prevention Program in Washington State, Heather Carter is changing the way we think and deal with high suicide-risk LGBT youth.’
Redwood String Ensemble
‘The Redwood String Ensemble is a quartet at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In their video entry, the Ensemble performs a string quartet by Samuel Barber.’
George Stewart, SAGE
‘George Stewart is a volunteer and participant at the Harlem program of SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders) and at the SAGE Senior Center. He is a long-time advocate for positive social change, especially on behalf of LGBT older people.’
Gay and Lesbian Service members & Military Acceptance Project
‘The Military Acceptance Project (MAP) promotes acceptance of all service members through enlightenment, empowerment and service. MAP has reached thousands of LGBT service members, veterans and their families worldwide with offers of individual and group support.’
CenterLink
‘CenterLink acts as a support system to LGBT community centers all across the country by helping them build sustainable community centers for their cities.’
