Video: Hillary Clinton sends acceptance message for WorldPride award
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sent a video message to London thanking WorldPride organisers for giving her its World LGBT Award.
Unable to accept the award in person last night, Secretary Clinton sent the above video message from the US.
In her acceptance speech, she states: “I want especially to acknowledge all the people who are working hard to advance human rights in their own communities and countries… making a difference everyday, often at great cost to themselves.”
On being honoured with the award, she says: “Although I want, once again to thank you for honouring me with this award, I really want to thank you for standing up for the rights of LGBT people everywhere.”
The WorldPride 2012 Gala Dinner Dine with Pride was a fundraising event to support Pride London’s newly created ‘Solidarity Fund’ last night.
The fund will support organisations in the Commonwealth that work with the LGBT community to tackle homophobia and transphobia.
WorldPride will go ahead tomorrow in London, albeit heavily scaled back. A walking parade will commence at 11am instead of 1pm with floats and vehicles no longer able to take part. A stage celebration in Trafalgar Square will run from 1.30pm to 6pm but all official Pride events in Soho have been cancelled.
