Video: Anti-gay American Family Association ponders Google ban
The American Family Association is pondering whether to boycott all Google products in response to the internet giant’s Legalise Love campaign.
Google’s campaign, unveiled at the weekend, will push for the decriminalisation of homosexuality around the world.
The AFA already boycotts a number of companies which support LGBT rights, including Oreo Cookies and Home Depot, but it seems a blanket ban on all Google products may be an inconvenience too far.
An AFA Today video posted on RightWingWatch.org shows Buster Wilson, the general manager of the AFA’s radio network, mulling over the issue.
In the clip (hosted by Google-owned YouTube, no less) Wilson says: “This is going to to be a hard one for a lot of us. We are so integrated into Google’s products, this is going to be a tough one. It’s more than just a search engine, many of us have Android phones … Many of us use the Google calendar, or Google Task, or Gmail.”
He concluded: “I guess we’ll test the meat of our convictions.”
The anti-gay group may struggle to find a suitable tech replacement, as Microsoft, which owns Bing, has thrown its weight behind marriage equality campaigns.
