Chloe Sevigny worried about reactions to trans assassin role
Chloe Sevigny says she feared trans people would be disappointed with her for playing a trans character in TV series Hit & Miss.
The actress, 37, told Out magazine she was concerned there would be anger that a transgender performer wasn’t playing the part of Mia, an assassin.
Sevigny said: “I was worried people would be angry that they didn’t cast a real person who was transitioning. I asked why they didn’t, and the producers said they didn’t find the right person.
“It’s a big responsibility toward that community and I wanted to do them right.”
But she added she was excited about the role, saying: “Who doesn’t love a challenge?
“My manager called me and said, ‘I got some scripts today, and they’re f***ing crazy. I’ve never read anything like them, and I kinda think you’re going to be into it.’ A little way into reading the first script, I knew I was in.”
In 1999, Sevigny appeared in Boys Don’t Cry, the story of trans man Brandon Teena, who was raped and murdered.
She won an Oscar nomination for playing his girlfriend, while Hillary Swank took the lead role.
