Video: Equal marriage film seeks votes for national awards
Makers of the equal marriage short film Homecoming, which was released earlier this year to support government plans to legalise gay marriages in England and Wales, are appealing for help promoting the film to show in cinemas nationwide.
The film has been entered into the Virgin Media Short Awards in the hope of winning the 13th place, which is reserved for the video which is shared most across social media.
Along with the first twelve shorts chosen by judges, the equal marriage campaign film could be shown in cinemas across the UK, if it is shared enough times before Thursday 19 July.
It would also be shared by Virgin Media Shorts 2012’s social media network and be eligible for a number of awards.
The short film, whose making and distribution was backed by PinkNews.co.uk and other media companies, shows British forces returning home to their loved ones, with the reunion of one soldier and his partner soon turning into a surprise marriage proposal.
The film aims to tackle opposition with by arguing that if people can serve in British military regardless of sexuality, they should be able celebrate their love and commitment with civil marriage. It stars James Knight, from London’s West End and rising screen-star Lew Smart.
Film-maker Mike Buonaiuto told PinkNews.co.uk “Virgin Media Shorts is a world-class competition showing the best of british short filmmaking and it would be amazing to for a film which made such a difference to the campaign for equal marriage in the UK to be recognized among the finalists.
“With almost 800,000 hits on Youtube we definitely have the ability to make it the most shared video on Virgin Media Shorts as well – winning it that all important lucky 13th place in the final!
“So it’s really important to take five seconds to visit the VMShorts site and run your mouse along the sharing buttons. Thank you so much, everyone, for your support.”
