US: Kentucky girl, 16, beaten by men in anti-gay attack
A 16-year-old girl in Kentucky, US, is recovering from a broken jaw after being attacked by two men who shouted anti-gay slurs.
The Louisville teenager, who has not been named, was reportedly walking to a shop with two younger boys on Tuesday morning when they were approached by four adults.
Andi Hornback, the boys’ mother, told NBC that two men in the group began shouting anti-gay abuse at the girl before beating her.
One of the boys called Ms Hornback on a mobile phone, saying a group of adults was intimidating them but the attack took place before he could give their location.
The girl, who was described by family friend Brenda Hickerson as a “strong lesbian young girl”, suffered a broken jaw, lost teeth and scrapes and bruises.
Ms Hickerson said: “She was on the ground with blood just pouring out of her face. These grown men put her on the ground, kicked her in her stomach, kicked her in her face and punched her in the face and kept going until a bystander yelled stop and called 911.”
One of Ms Hornback’s sons suffered a concussion trying to help the girl.
Police are investigating the attack.
