Marriage equality boosts New York City economy by $259m
One year of marriage equality in New York City has brought $259 million into the economy, it was announced today.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn said today that more than 8,000 gay couples had married since the law came into action – one tenth of all marriages in the city in the last year.
The mayor said in a statement: “Marriage equality has made our city more open, inclusive and free – and it has also helped to create jobs and support our economy.
“New York has always been a great place to get married and since the passage of the Marriage Equality Act, we’re welcoming more and more couples, their families and friends from around the country and the world.”
