London: Voting opens to choose HIV community campaign
Online voting has opened for the public to choose a new HIV awareness campaign in London.
In May, Soho-based HIV and sexual health clinic, 56 Dean Street, its The Community Campaign.
The campaign asked any member of the community to submit their ideas for an innovative advertising campaign that would make an impact to reduce rates of HIV, or increase education about sexual health amongst gay and bisexual men.
56 Dean Street said there had been an excellent response to the call for entries.
The Community Campaign judges, including figures from the worlds of advertising, publishing and sexual, chose five finalists.
Finalists’ entries have been uploaded onto Facebook today and made available for public vote: www.facebook.com/thecommunitycampaign
The judges said they were encouraged by the wide range of submissions from a diverse mix of entrants. Once the community has voted, the chosen advertisement will be professionally designed and placed in the media.
Dr Alan McOwan, Service Director at 56 Dean Street said: “With rates of HIV transmission still rising in the gay community, we wanted to create a campaign that resonated with the target audience and would make a real difference to people’s attitudes and behaviours. This campaign aims to get the community thinking about, and taking responsibility for, their own sexual health.”
Simon Johnson, Head of Brand at Gaydar and Community Campaign judge, added: “It was wonderful to see the creativity and passion behind the entries that The Community Campaign received, it was difficult to shortlist only five, but all the judges feel our finalists are very deserving of their place in the final round.”
