The Mayor of London Boris Johnson is facing renewed calls to honour a commitment to record an Out4Marriage video after London Assembly Member Tom Copley submitted a formal question.

On 27 June at the Talk London debate Mr Johnson promised to join the likes of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Home Secretary Theresa May in recording a video in support of the global campaign for equal marriage after being quizzed by a member of the audience.

However, with several weeks now passed, Mr Johnson has so far failed to produce a video  – much to the annoyance of the campaigner that he made the promise to.

Mr Tom Kirkpatrick has now successfully referred the matter to the government’s Equalities Office.

It seems that others at City Hall have also lost patience.

Labour’s London Assembly Member Tom Copley told Pinknews.co.uk that he’s now formally asked on when the mayor intends to fulfill his promise and in a statement said: “Yet again Boris Johnson has made promises to the LGBT community that he has failed to keep.

“During the election he promised us an LGBT manifesto, which never materialised.

“Now he’s failed to fulfil his pledge to record an Out4Marriage video.  On top of this, he didn’t turn up to World Pride.

“The mayor pays lip service to LGBT issues but when it comes to taking action he either doesn’t really care, or he can’t be bothered.  He needs to stand up and represent all Londoners.”
