Madonna forgives Elton John after ‘stripper’ jibe
Madonna says she knows that Sir Elton John is a fan even though he called her a “fairground stripper”.
But it appears the Material Girl is keen to respond to Sir Elton’s onslaught by showering the pop veteran with kindness.
TMZ reports that Madonna dedicated a song to Sir Elton at a gig in Nice on Tuesday: “I know he’s a big fan of it,” the 54-year-old said mockingly of her track Masterpiece.
“And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”
Madonna’s Masterpiece beat Sir Elton’s Hello Hello for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes in January. The track had featured in the animated film Gnomeo and Juliet.
However, the decision outraged Sir Elton, and led to his partner David Furnish, who produced the film, to go on a bitter rant.
He said Madonna was “desperate”, called her acceptance speech “embarrassing in its narcissism”, and topped it off by writing, “Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!” on Facebook.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Madonna “didn’t care” about what Sir Elton had to say about her career.
