Billionaire GOP supporter disagrees with platform, says he supports gay marriage
A supporter of the Republican Party has broken with their official policy on equal marriage, and said that he is in support of the movement towards equality.
David Koch, whose brother, Charlie is also a big supporter of the party, has directed millions of dollars into the GOP in an effort to have Mitt Romney elected, as well as other congressional Republicans.
He said: “I believe in gay marriage,” when speaking to Politico at the Republican Party National Convention. When told Mitt Romney, presidential candidate for the party, was against equal marriage, Koch said: “Well, I disagree with that.”
David Koch, an industrialist billionaire, was a vice presidential nominee for the Libertarian party in the 1980s, and has often broken with GOP policies, but considers himself primarily republican.
Koch also disagreed with other GOP policies when he said the US should pull out from the Middle east, put in place spending restrictions, and raise taxes in order to improve the US economic situation.
Not the only person to disagree with the official line opposing equal marriage, the Republicans, and Romney have come under heavy criticism from outside, and within their own ranks.
Clint Eastwood was a guest speaker at the Republican National Convention, despite his pro-marriage equality stance. Details, images and videos of his speech went viral because he spoke to an empty chair as if it was President Obama, who tweeted following the speech saying he was still a fan.
