Warwickshire: Man accused of killing civil partner after a row about their pet dog
A court has heard that a man was allegedly murdered by his civil partner when he was pushed into the path of a bus after an argument outside an Indian restaurant in Leamington Spa.
49-year-old Ian Chaundy stands accused of killing 40-year-old Paul Carscadden on a night out in June 2011.
Mr Chaundy screamed “I killed him, I pushed him, I love him”, moments after Mr Carscadden was hit by a Stagecoach bus, Birmingham Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Alan Kent QC told jurors that Mr Carscadden would have died instantly from his injuries.
Mr Kent said: “This is the case of a man in his early 40s, killed by his partner, the defendant, in what was undoubtedly a moment of madness he will regret for the rest of his life”.
The Daily Mail reports the couple, who shared a £600,000 Georgian house, had been on a night out with two male friends when they argued over their pet beagle that was back at the property.
The court heard the incident, in Bath Street, was captured by CCTV.
Mr Chaundy, of Avenue Road, Leamington, denies murder and pleaded not guilty to an alternative count of manslaughter.
The court heard that during police interviews Mr Chaundy claimed he could not remember pushing his partner and was only aware of the bus once Mr Carscadden started falling.
The trial continues.
