Aberdeen: Trainee lawyer found guilty of homophobic attack
A second-year trainee lawyer has been found guilty of making homophobic remarks and attacking two students outside a nightclub in Aberdeen.
The Legal Check website reports that 26-year-old Bruce Mangeon-Fairweather had denied the charges, claiming that he was the victim of a plot to “ruin” his fledgling legal career.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that a “hopelessly drunk” Mangeon-Fairweather began talking to a group of students who were waiting to enter the city’s Exodus nightclub.
He then started shouting homophobic abuse after learning that one of the men in the group was gay.
Mangeon-Fairweather is said to have labelled him “disgusting” and a “poof”.
Later in the evening, Mangeon-Fairweather apparently punched the victim, having waited outside the club for him.
He then launched another attack at the gay man, a short time later, and in the process knocked one of his friends to the ground.
Mangeon-Fairweather has now been found guilty of the charges, which date back to last year, he now awaits sentencing.
