US: Reverend Jesse Jackson has “no problem” with marrying same-sex couples
Reverend Jesse Jackson has said he would officiate a same-sex wedding, were he asked to do so, and that he has “no problem” with gay relationships.
The Baptist minister has been more and more active in supporting the fight for equal marriage in recent months, after changing his stance on the issue back in 2010.
Speaking at the Press Centre of the Democratic National Convention last week, he said:
“Beginning with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, to the inclusion of blacks, Hispanics, 18-year-olds, and women, opportunities are now unlimited,” HumanEvents.com reported.
He also said that he has “no problem,” with same-sex relationships, and when asked whether he would perform a same-sex wedding ceremony, he said, “If I was asked to.”
Reverend Jackson had previously likened the fight for equal marriage to the fight against slavery:
“If the states had to vote on slavery, we would have lost the vote,” reported the LA Times, “If we had to vote on the right [for blacks] to vote, we would have lost that vote.”
