London: 4th annual Stonewall fundraiser returns to the Paramount Club
The soaring heights of the capital will be taken in by those attending the annual fundraiser for Stonewall at the Paramount Club on Friday 28 September.
The club is situated at the top of Centre Point, right in the heart of London’s LGBT epicentre of Soho.
Now in its fourth year, the annual event has raised nearly £40,000 in order to fund Stonewall’s Education for All campaign, which tackles anti-gay bullying in schools.
Earlier this year, the charity revealed in its School Report that 55% of lesbian, gay and bisexual pupils in Britain’s secondary schools experience homophobic bullying, while 99% hear the word ‘gay’ being used disparagingly at their schools.
Organiser Tom Winchester said: “The campaign funds teacher training and outreach groups which visit schools to educate teachers and students on ways to deal with homophobic bullying, a problem which is endemic for many children regardless of their sexuality”.
To date the campaign has been supported by celebrities including Sir Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry, David Furnish, Graham Norton and Patrick Cox.
Next Friday’s fundraiser will also include a raffle and music from top DJs Terry Vietheer and Sonathaq.
