Video: Daniel Radcliffe debates anti-gay bullying in web chat
Actor Daniel Radcliffe has answered questions submitted by young people around the world about bullying and why he is committed to fighting for LGBT equality as part of an online web broadcast with the Trevor Project.
The 23-year-old took part in the initiative to help raise awareness for September’s National Suicide Prevention Month campaign.
Daniel has previously filmed numerous public service messages for the US LGBT teen suicide prevention organisation and was honoured with its Hero award in 2011.
When asked about gay rights during the broadcast, Daniel said: “Certain issues surrounding gay rights have always been relevant, it’s just that they weren’t considered relevant even though they were, they just haven’t been paid attention to.”
Discussing his career, Daniel revealed: “A lot of the time it’s fighting your own insecurity and doubt and this is something I talk to a lot of actors about.
“Most of the actors I know are also some of the most neurotic people I know and it’s strange that a combination like that exists so much“.
Daniel said the most important thing in life is having good relationships with your friends, family and loved ones.
“When you do feel self-doubt or you do feel unhappy and you talk to someone about it, its better, I do believe that a problem shared is a problem halved”.
He continued: “But with things like self-doubt and the slightly more nagging things you do have to have to live with them for a while … You have to live in that place for a bit and if that really frightens you then that’s when turning to a friend will help”.
Daniel will soon be appearing as the late gay poet Allen Ginsberg in the film Kill Your Darlings, which is due to be released in 2013.
