John Travolta wins latest ‘gay spa’ legal case
Hollywood actor John Travolta has won another legal case over allegations about his private life.
Two lawsuits by two male massage therapists who claimed sexual battery were dismissed in May of this year – and now a judge has ruled to dismiss a defamation lawsuit against Travolta and his attorney Marty Singer.
Robert Randolph, author of You’ll Never Spa in This Town Again, unsuccessfully sued Travolta for libel, claiming that he had used gay bathhouses.
Randolph also claimed Travolta and his lawyer conspired to discredit him and his book by spreading lies about his mental health.
He said that Singer harmed him when he wrote a letter in response to the book and article, according to court documents.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey dismissed the case on Thursday because he found, in part, that the letter has free speech protection. CNN reports that lawyer Lynda Goldman, who has been representing Travolta and Singer, applauded the decision, saying:
“Robert Randolph’s ridiculous lawsuit against John Travolta and his attorney Marty Singer never should have been filed. Notwithstanding inane tabloid fodder, two individuals who sued Mr Travolta voluntarily dismissed their cases, and Randolph’s case was dismissed by the court.
Goldman added: “Anyone else who thinks about suing Mr Travolta should expect a similar result.”
Attorneys for Randolph could not be reached for comment.
