Chick-fil-A boss: We support ‘Biblical families’
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy has voiced his support for “Biblical families” in one of his first interviews since his earlier comments caused controversy regarding equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.
According to the Associated Press, the US fast food chain boss told Atlanta TV station WXIA in an interview released today that families are important to “those of us who are concerned about being able to hang on to our heritage.”
He added “We support Biblical families, and they’ve always been a part of that.”
Mr Cathy made the comments over the weekend at an event at his family’s Georgia ranch.
However, Mr Cathy subsequently confirmed that the company had made no “concessions” over the issue of donations – despite a letter suggesting it had.
Mr Cathy kicked up a storm of controversy this summer with comments opposing same-sex marriage.
Long lines formed outside Chick-fil-A restaurants on an “appreciation day” and opponents countered with “kiss-ins” by same-sex couples.
Mr Cathy’s father started the Atlanta-based company in 1967.
The company has issued several statements this year, saying that it does not discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation.
