BNP leader Nick Griffin urges supporters to protest outside gay couple’s home

Cambridgeshire police has launched an investigation after the leader of the British National Party reportedly posted the address of a gay couple on the internet.

The Guardian reports that Nick Griffin, who is also an MEP for the North West, allegedly encouraged his supporters to demonstrate outside the home of Michael Black and John Morgan.

Earlier on Thursday, the couple were both awarded £1,800 each at Reading County Court after successfully suing the Christian owner of a bed and breakfast in Berkshire, who refused to allow them to share a double room.

In response, Mr Griffin, who has previously described gay people as “creepy” and has admitted that he would like to ban civil partnerships, wrote on his twitter account @nickgriffinmep

“If anyone can give us address of the 2 bullying ‘gay’ activists who’ve won case v Christian B&B owners, we’ll hold demo… or rights of all home owners, gays included, to rent or not rent rooms to whomsoever they wish.”

He then published another tweet, which he claimed was the couple’s address, followed by the remarks:

“A British Justice team will come up to Huntington & give you a bit of drama by way of reminding you that an English couple’s home is their castle. Say No to heterophobia!”

Another tweeted said: “Why don’t left & gay activists confront Muslims instead of picking on meek & forgiving Christians? Bullies are always cowards!”

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police said it was looking into “a number of complaints” it had received about the tweets.

This evening, gay rights charity Stonewall, who welcomed Thursday’s ruling by Reading County Court, spoke of its shock at Mr Griffin’s behaviour and said it was a reminder that hatred against gay people still exists in Britain.
