Video: Canadian Mounted Police campaign against anti-gay bullying
LGBT members of the Canadian Mounted Police have recorded a video against homophobic bullying.
Twenty British Columbian Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers posted the video, part of the “It Gets Better” movement, and it features personal stories about growing up, and facing bullying, and homophobic slurs.
The video, which is ten minutes long, features Constable Russel Olsen, who speaks of growing up surrounded by stereotypes, UPI reports.
“If you were gay you kind of had to be an artist, or a makeup artist or you worked retail,” he says. “You kind of had a job that wasn’t necessarily considered masculine.”
The Globe and Mail reported that police officers in San Francisco and Austin, Texas, had released similar videos, but that the RCMP represented a much larger police force, as it has 30,000 employees.
