Labour MP Ben Bradshaw: ‘Urine is pouring into my office’
Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, the first MP elected as an openly gay man and former Culture Secretary has amused Twitter by revealing that his House of Commons office is covered in urine.
Earlier, the MP for Exter tweeted: “Urine seems to be pouring through the ceiling into my Commons office for the second day running!”
An aide told the BBC ”the whole office smells of urine, basically. It’s dripping from a corner. We’ve got a bucket underneath.
“It started yesterday and they fixed it, but it’s started again today. The House authorities are aware and they are getting it sorted.”
In subsequent tweets, Mr Bradshaw dubbed the situation “#urinegate”.
A Commons spokesman told the BBC: “The engineers of the Parliamentary Estates Directorate have now identified the problem – a broken urinal waste pipe. There has been no damage to possessions/IT equipment and there will be a clean-up.”
Mr Bradshaw later tweeted that his assistants were wearing perfume so the office didn’t smell too bad.
“This is pure politics on their part. This isn’t a priority for the gay community, which already won equal rights with
civil partnerships.
