Video: This Christmas, George Takei will help you come out for your family for $99
In a spoof infomercial sketch for last night’s Conan show, Andy Richter, Conan O’Brien’s longtime sidekick with a little help from Star Trek star George Takei offered to help viewers come out to their family at the Christmas dinner.
“Coming out to your family during the holidays is never easy,” Ritcher says in the sketch. “It can be a delicate process, and sometimes you need a helpful nudge. That’s where I come in.
“If you’re struggling to work up the nerve to come out to your family this season, let me do it for you! Get out of that closet, and get on with the rest of your life!”
Packages start at $99, with an additional fee for comedian Deon Cole to yell at the Grandma of the person coming out and just $1.95 extra Takei will come too and say “welcome to the wonderful world of gay!”
Takei also offered: “If any of you motherf**kers give him s**t about it, I am going to come back and f**k your s**t up!”
“In 2005 the Californian Senate and Assembly passed a bill legalising same-sex marriage. All that was required for it to become law was the signature of the governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. When he ran for governor he courted the gay vote saying, ‘I’m from Hollywood, I’ve worked with gays and lesbians, some of my best friends are gay.’ But when it came to it he played to the reactionary section of his Republican base. He vetoed the bill.
“I spoke to the press for the first time about being gay to highlight Schwarzenegger’s hypocrisy. Of course we didn’t know just how hypocritical he was until after he left office, but that’s why I did it. I felt my voice had to be authentic.”
