Anderson Cooper: I dated girls when I was a teenager to meet their brothers
Anderson Cooper has spoken about his teenage years, and that he accidentally led his female friends to think they were dating. He said he was sometimes secretly hoping to “meet their brothers.”
Speaking on his talk show, Mr Cooper, who came out last year after much speculation about his sexuality, admitted that he had dated girls.
Mr Cooper said that sometimes they would think they were dating, when he hadn’t realised they did, and that sometimes he was simply hoping to get a chance to meet their brothers, reports AZCentral.
“Some of my best friends now are girls who allegedly dated me at 13 and 14, and who I didn’t really know we were dating, but they thought we were dating, and I was sort of, you know, hoping to meet their brothers,” he said.
“The few times when I would go on a date with a girl — like when I was 12 — there was a lot of sharing, and a lot of talking, and a lot of asking how I am.”
In July, Mr Cooper sent an email to blogger Andrew Sullivan, in which he allowed to be published online on The Daily Beast, he confirmed being gay. He had never publicly confirmed his sexual orientation, citing his desire for neutrality as a journalist.
In the letter, he said: “The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
In 2007, Out Magazine named Cooper alongside actors Jodie Foster, David Hyde Pearce and Sean Hayes as stars it said were living in a “glass closet” by refusing to end speculation about their sexuality.
