Anti-gay banner flown over Lady Gaga concert
The beginning of Lady Gaga’s new tour was targeted by an anti-gay pressure group which hired a plane to fly a banner reading “Not born this way” over her concert for four hours.
The Florida Family Association paid $1,900 to fly the banner over the concert in Tacoma, Washington on Monday.
The concert was the first in the North American leg of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball. The tour is accompanied by a travelling Born Brave Bus, which contains resources on anti-bullying, mental health services and suicide prevention. The Born Brave Bus is open to LGBT people aged 13-25 before the concerts.
A statement on the FFA website specifically targeted the Born Brave Bus element of the tour. It said: “This Born Brave Bus will have unfettered access to influence children and teens to embrace homosexuality and transvestism for a lifetime even though there is no scientific evidence people are born gay. Additionally, there is an abundance of evidence which indicates that very large number of male teens and older boys are introduced to the homosexual lifestyle by aggressive homosexual adults.”
Concert-goer Brittney Blankenship, who had travelled from Idaho to Washington to attend said: “It’s disheartening, but it’s their right. As much as we want to have this pride, they have the right to feel how they do too.”
The FFA have stated that they “would like to fly more banners to counter Gaga’s hedonistic, Godless message at more concerts.”
