Russian appeals court supports decision to drop gay ‘propaganda’ case against Madonna
Appeals court officials in Russia have upheld a previous ruling rejecting a $10.5 million (£6.5 m) lawsuit filed against Madonna for allegedly promoting LGBT rights at a concert in St Petersburg last summer.
The plaintiffs said they were “desperate” to make the Material Girl pay for their “moral suffering” following her performance in the city during August.
It was after she spoke out against the ban on stage and handed out pink bracelets.
She also issued a message of support for members of the imprisoned LGBT-supporting feminist punk band Pussy Riot.
The plaintiffs challenged the decision and took their argument to St Petersburg City Court – but judges stood by the ruling this week and rejected the suit.
