Daniel Radcliffe: Playing gay is the same as straight because falling in love is all the same
Actor Daniel Radcliffe has said that he is confused as to why he keeps being asked what it’s like to play a gay character, as he said there is “no difference” in the way gay and straight people fall in love.
In his latest film, Kill Your Darlings, Radcliffe plays the late poet Allen Ginsberg, Daniel Radcliffe, who meets writers William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac at college, following a murder.
The 23-year-old Harry Potter actor said: “You never see a gay actor getting asked what it’s like to play straight — to my knowledge, at least, there is no difference in how heterosexual and homosexual people fall in love.”
He also went on to say that he was glad he had not become a prima donna from the global fame he gained from appearing as Harry Potter.
Speaking to Out Magazine, he said: “I’ve got great parents who would never have allowed me to become a c***y, obnoxious s***. The thing I learned, much more than learning about acting, was learning about on-set etiquette.”
He said he hoped to be an actor for life “I’ve always said that it’s a long process, and in a way it may be a lifelong one. It’s about proving to people that I’m in this for the long haul, and that I wasn’t just looking to get as famous as I could for as long as I could and ride that out. I love almost every aspect of this industry and I want to be in it, and if I could drop dead on a film set at 80, that’s how I’d want to go.”
