London: Former Mayor of Barnet Brian Coleman says he once slept with an Arsenal footballer
Brian Coleman, the gay former Conservative London Assembly Member and ex-mayor of Barnet, says he previously slept with an unnamed striker for Arsenal Football Club.
The 51-year-old made the claim last week on his blog titled, “The King of Bling is back”, in a post about Barnet FC’s plan to move stadiums.
He wrote: “For someone who has little interest in football, although I did attend Barnet v Port Vale at Underhill a couple of years ago, and once slept with an Arsenal striker, I am not fussed if Barnet survive in the football league or bothered where they play.”
It is unclear when the incident allegedly took place, or who the footballer was.
Mr Coleman had been part of Mayor Boris Johnson’s team at City Hall until May 2012.
Mr Cole’s defeat meant he had to relinquish his position as chair of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority – where he was paid £130,000 a year.
He currently serves as an Independent on Barnet Council.
Mr Coleman also hit the headlines when he claimed that former Conservative Prime Minister Ted Heath was reprimanded as a junior MP for “cottaging” for gay sex.
The only English footballer to come out to date is Justin Fashanu who committed suicide in 1998.
