London: Anti-gay marriage protest to take place in Trafalgar Square by French activists
Organisers behind several anti-equal marriage rallies in France plan to stage a protest against the same-sex marriage bill for England and Wales on Sunday 24 March in Trafalgar Square.
French anti-equality group La Manif pour Tous is said to be behind the rally, which will take place on Palm Sunday and coincides with a similar large-scale anti-equal marriage protest planned for the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
The move could delight anti-equal marriage campaigner Ann Widdecombe.
In January, around 340,000 same-sex marriage opponents took part in a rally in Paris; however, similar large-scale marches in support of France’s pending equal marriage bill have also taken place in recent months as well.
According to the organisers, it was in response to the “huge controversy” of last month’s decision of the majority of British Muslim MPs to support the government’s same-sex marriage bill.
