California: Gay man viciously attacked in front of cousin
A gay man is recovering after a violent homophobic attack in California.
Mikey Partida, 32, of Davis, California, was leaving a relative’s home on Sunday 10 March when a man called him a “faggott”.
He tried to ignore the man and kept walking, but realising he had left his keys, Mr Partida turned back and the abuse continued.
“He just kept fighting me and fighting me until I blacked out. And then I came to and was here,” the victim said to ABC’s News10 station from his hospital bed.
Mr Partida’s younger cousin, Vanessa Turner, was close by at the time of assault and said the attacker allegedly bragged about his actions afterwards.
Police in Davis have identified the suspect and hope to make an arrest as soon as possible.
They are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Despite cuts to his face, doctors expect Mr Partida to make a fully recovery.
