US pastor says gay sex is like ‘plugging an electrical cord into the wrong outlet’
Texas megachurch Pastor Robert Jeffress has suggested gay sex is like plugging an electrical cord into the wrong outlet.
Jeffress’ First Baptist Church in Dallas recently was embroiled in controversy after it was announced that Christian football player Tim Tebow planned to attend the grand opening of the new $130 million (£87 million) facility – however Tebow dropped out last month.
On Wednesday, Right Wing Watch released video of Jeffress telling the Trinity Broadcasting Network that “Jesus said ‘here’s God’s standard’ any deviation from that, whether it’s adultery, whether it’s pre-marital sex, or unbiblical divorce or homosexuality, all of those things are variations from God’s standards”.
He added: “God dreamed up sex”, and that “it ought to be between a man and a woman and that it should be in the security of a married relationship and that’s why God designed it that way”.
Jeffress went on to tell a story about how a repairman had recently come to his house to repair a TV that was several years old.
He then suggested gay sex was like plugging an electrical cord into the wrong outlet.
“You know, in the instruction manual, it said, now plug this into a 120 [volt] outlet. Suppose I said, ‘Oh, I’m not going to follow those instructions, those are antiquated instructions. I’m going to plug it into a 220 [volt] outlet. It’s my TV and I can do whatever I want to with it.”
Jeffress added: “Well, it is my TV to do what I want to with it, but I’m going to blow that TV to smithereens if I put it in a 220 outlet.”
