US: Radio Host attacks the Girl Scouts for supporting the “homosexual lifestyle”

A US radio host has attacked the Girl Scouts of the USA, claiming that it “supports homosexual lifestyles”, and because it “features homosexuals in some of their materials”.

Linda Harvey, a radio host with an Ohio based Christian radio show Mission America, said that the teachings of the Girl Scouts went against “authentic morality”, because, she said, of its support for gay people, and promotion of “prominent female homosexuals”.

She said: “This is not at all the way the organization started, but Girl Scout materials and programs support role models like radical feminists Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan, they support homosexual lifestyles and feature prominent female homosexuals in some of their materials.

“At the same time virtually absent is respect for authentic morality, Christianity, conservative viewpoints and just plain old motherhood.

“It’s one more way that girls are being taught that unless you have an attitude of suspicion toward males in general, unless you bring home a paycheck and unless you have a worldview based on self-indulgence with never a notion of sacrifice, you as a woman are really diminished in worth, sexual self-restraint or restraint of just your own female pride should be avoided at all costs.”

She previously praised countries which refuse to decriminalise homosexuality and said that the “radical” effort of the White House to achieve equal human rights was a “humanitarian disgrace”.

The Christian radio host in December said that same-sex marriage encourages children to have gay sex and that gay people aren’t human and should therefore not be protected under the US constitution. She also claimed that Jesus could be forced to marry another man if he was resurrected.

Amidst a controversy surrounding the Boy Scouts of America, it is putting the question of whether it should lift its national anti-gay policy to those it will directly affect – the members, volunteers and staff.

In July 2012, after a two year review, the Boy Scouts of America announced it would retain its ban on gay members, volunteers and staff.

Reports suggest that the BSA has been secretly convening a committee to look at whether to change or get rid of the ban.

Back in February, the Boy Scouts of American delayed a vote on whether or not to lift the ban, until May “due to the complexity of the issue”.
