US: Lesbian couple wins $100,000 Real Maine Wedding of the Year Contest
A lesbian couple has won a competition for their dream wedding, in the 2013 Real Maine Wedding of the Year Contest.
Jenna Eagleton and Caroline Currie have won their dream wedding, valued at up to $100,000, after submitting a video online explaining why they deserved to win.
The couple had planned to marry in autumn next year, but Caroline’s father, who has been sick with leukemia for about five years, told Caroline he wanted nothing more than to walk her down the aisle. The couple decided to marry at an earlier date when they discovered the wedding competition, fulfilling Caroline’s father’s wishes.
“We had so many great couples submit videos for this year’s contest and, as always, choosing a winner was really hard,” says Melanie Brooks, editor of the twice-annual publication. “We were happy to be able to open the contest to same-sex couples this year, thanks to legislation that passed last fall. We’re excited to start planning this amazing dream wedding with Jenna and Caroline.”
Their prize includes the reception, a wedding dress, tuxedos, rings, flowers, and limousine service. And members of the public will be able to vote on aspects of their wedding on the Real Maine Weddings Facebook page.
