Rapper Azealia Banks says A$AP Rocky should ‘come out of the closet’ for commenting on lipstick
Rapper Azealia Banks, who has been involved in controversy in the past for using homophobic slurs, has again taken to Twitter during a feud with fellow rapper A$AP Rocky, and said the straight artist should “come out of the closet” because he insulted her lipstick.
Banks, who was previously criticised for calling blogger Perez Hilton a “messy faggot”, on Twitter, also suggested Rocky was gay because he “wears dresses and gives makeup tips”.
The feud started when, during a previous interview, Rocky, who is straight, but has voiced his support for the gay community, commented on skin complexion, and said some women should not wear certain shades of lipstick.
He said: “I feel like with the red lipstick thing, it all depends on the pair of complexion.”
“I’m just being for real. You have to be fair-skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—fucking for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick? Naw, that looks stupid on all girls! Purple lipstick, guys! Like, what the fuck…”
Banks, whose signature look involves purple lipstick, took offence at the comments, and took to the microblogging site to vent her anger.
She said: “Lol @ asap rockys lipstick advice…. Some people should just come out of the closet…” When she received negative tweets for the comments she made about his sexuality, she claimed she was offended by what he said about lipstick.
“So rocky takes a direct blow to my image about dark skin and purple lipstick, then as soon as I’m a offended …. I’m the bad guy”, she said.
She continued: “That comment was so hurtful. Like hurtful beyond measure. Coming from him especially… It made me cry. It did.”
Today Banks continued her tirade, saying: “Lol Rocky used to get his dick sucked by this dude named Kenneth in Harlem”. She continued: “I don’t know why he’s ashamed to just be himself. I mean he wears dresses and gives makeup tips…. Just come out! Be FREEEEEE.”
Speaking to Rap-Up, the Harlem rapper, who is set to tour with Rihanna, said that he was annoyed that the public had the perception that people in the hip-hop industry were “small-minded or stupid”.
