Scottish Lib Dem leader writes equal marriage letter to SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has written to the SNP Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to urge her to press ahead with the Scottish Government’s plans to introduce equal marriage and to outline a “clear timetable”.
He recently said it was important “that Scotland isn’t left behind” England and Wales.
The bill now goes before the House of Lords and receives its second reading in the Lords on Monday 3 June.
Mr Rennie said: I have written to the Deputy First Minister to ask that her government sets out a clear timetable for the introduction of equal marriage in Scotland.
“If two people love each other, they should be able to demonstrate that through their commitment in marriage. Gay couples in Scotland must have the same rights as those in the rest of the UK.
“I hope that charities, individuals and many others will continue to make their voices heard to the Scottish Government on this very important issue.”
