Video: House of Lords Labour leader Baroness Royall comes Out4Marriage
The Labour leader in the House of Lords, Baroness Jan Royall, has recorded a video coming Out4Marriage, ahead of next week’s vote on the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, in the Lords.
In the video, Baroness Royall says: “I was really proud to gather with [Baroness] Glenys Thornton, to take the equality bill through this House, which laid the foundations for equal marriage. I’ve talked to lots of gay friends, and gay relations, and they all tell me how important it is to be able to get married.
“They all say that civil partnerships are wonderful, and they’re very grateful to the Labour government for how far we’ve got, but they want to go that little bit further.
“They too want to have their loving relationship recognised in a church. If that’s what they want, and I love them and they love each other, then I am all Out4Marriage. Are you?”
Lobby a Lord was launched today by equal marriage campaign group Out4Marriage, and allows users to either lobby a randomly picked peer ahead of next week’s Second Reading on Tuesday, or search and identify peers based on their equal marriage or LGBT rights stance.
