Former BP CEO Lord Browne to write new book on homophobia in business

Drawing on his own experiences, Lord Browne, the former chief executive of BP, is writing a new book on the need to end homophobic discrimination in the work place and in corporate life.

The 65-year-old crossbench peer resigned from BP in 2007 as a direct result of revelations connected to his sexual orientation.

Lord Browne was forced to step down as chief executive of the oil giant after it emerged that he had lied to the High Court about where he met a former lover who was planning to take details of their relationship to the press.

Commenting about his new book entitled ‘The Glass Closet’, which will be released next year, Lord Browne said: “I wish I had been brave enough to come out earlier in my tenure as CEO of BP. I regret it to this day. I know that if I had done so I would have made more of an impact for other gay men and women. With The Glass Closet I hope to give some of them the courage to make an impact of their own.”

The Glass Closet UK edition will be published by WH Allen in June 2014 to coincide with World Pride and the 45^th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
