Ghana: Church minister suspended over gay sex claims
A church minister in Ghana has reportedly been suspended over claims of engaging in “homosexual acts” with seven young men aged between 20 and 28.
The allegations first surfaced last month.
Ghana Web reports the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has suspended Reverend Kingsford Kusi-Kyere, of the Abokobi branch of the Church in Accra, and that police in the country are investigating the matter.
Rev Kusi-Kyere previously denied the claims.
Church of Ghana spokesperson Reverend John Adjei said to Citi News on Monday that Rev Kusi-Kyere had asked to step aside from his position.
“He [Rev Kusi-Kyere] is no longer the manager of the Agric station, and he is also not in charge of any congregation. He has been asked to proceed on leave pending the final outcome of the police investigations,” Rev John Adjei added.
Gay sex is a criminal act in Ghanaian law, which deems “sexual intercourse with a person in an unnatural manner” punishable by imprisonment.
