Video: US House Democrat: ‘Who cares’ what Michele Bachmann thinks about DOMA?
US House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, showed her approval for the strike-down of the Defense of Marriage Act yesterday by the US Supreme Court, and said that she did not care what Representative Michele Bachmann had to say.
Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican, released a statement after the Supreme Court made its ruling to strike down Section 3 of the legislation, to say that she disagreed with it.
“Marriage was created by the hand of God,”she said. “No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted.”
Following the statement with other House Democrats, a reporter asked Ms Pelosi what she thought on the statement by Bachmann, to which she responded “who cares”.
Representative Mark Takano, of California, who is openly gay, said he thought every American would eventually celebrate yesterday’s decision.
“It merely ratified what was already in the hearts and minds of a great majority of the American people,” he said.
At a later press conference, Bachmann said: “Every time the Supreme Court meets, it’s another constitutional convention because they say it is… I believe that the people are more important than the Supreme Court and I do believe that the people will have their sway. The Supreme Court, though they may think so, have not yet arisen to the level of God.”
