Placebo lead singer: ‘If gay people are crazy enough to want to get married, it should be allowed’
Speaking in celebration of the passing of the equal marriage bill for England and Wales, lead singer of the band Placebo has offered the band’s support for a global movement towards the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
The band Placebo already have a large LGBT following, and offered their support for the passage of the England and Wales equal marriage bill though its final stage in the House of Commons yesterday evening.
“It’s about time really,” says frontman Brian Molko said to Gigwise. “I hope to see a wave sweeping across the globe. I’m surprised that A. it has taken so long and B. there still seems to be such opposition to gay marriage.”
“If gay people are crazy enough to want to get married, it should be allowed.”
As well as being popular in the LGBT community, the band has throughout its career explored ideas of androgyny, including Mr Molko’s experimentation with his appearance when performing live.
Placebo are to release their new album Loud Like Love, in 2013, and recently premiered a comeback single, Too Many Friends.
The new track addresses problems with social media, and that society is dependent on it.
The opening line of the song says: “My computer thinks I’m gay, I threw that piece of junk away.”
The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill for England and Wales will soon be given Royal Assent, in order to become law.
