Police: 40 arrests at Brighton Pride
Sussex Police say 40 arrests were made during Brighton Pride at the weekend – the same figure as last year.
Offences included being drunk and disorderly, theft, assaulting a police officer, sexual assault and possession of drugs.
Det Ch Insp Paul Betts, of Sussex Police, said: “Given the sheer size of this operation, I would say that overall, the day was a huge success and the vast majority of attendees will have experienced a wonderful festive weekend and will take home some great memories of Pride 2013.
“Officers worked through the night and were a visible presence on the streets to help, advise and prevent crime.
“It was great seeing the support from many of the crowds gathered in the street for the officers and staff who were marching in the parade and there was a great turn out at the Sussex Police stand in Preston Park.”
An estimated 25,000 people attended the main event in Preston Park on Saturday – the largest in Brighton Pride’s history.
Headlines acts included Miss Dynamite and the original Sugababes line-up.
