US radio host: LGBT rights initiatives lead to the ‘oppression’ of people of faith, and parents

US Christian radio host Linda Harvey has claimed that an initiative by the United Nations to raise awareness of LGBT issues such as discrimination, and to promote respect, actually “oppresses” parents.

Harvey, speaking on Mission America said that the UN Free and Equal campaign was “deceptive”, because universal rights do not “apply to high risk, sexual contact that no one needs to do,” reports Right Wing Watch.

She said: “No one, if these people have their way, would have the actual universal human right to live out a religious belief that upholds man-woman sexuality within marriage as the standard and all other sexual practices as sinful,”

Harvey continued to say that the campaign intents to deny “free speech and other rights, including forcing the indoctrination of children into accepting homosexuality whether their parents like it or not.”

She went on to say that the “incidences of oppression and discrimination” by LGBT rights advcoates “against people of faith, and against parents, are piling up.”

The UN description of the initiative says: “This unprecedented global public information initiative aims to raise awareness of homophobic violence and discrimination, and to promote greater respect for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people everywhere.”

Last week Harvey spoke on her programme to suggest that being gay is due to a “hormone imbalance”, similar to people who have eating disorders and become obese, and that it is a behaviour which can simply be “unlearned”.

Weighing in on the argument surrounding a gay Ohio couple who had their out-of-state marriage recognised last week by a judge because one of them is terminally ill, Harvey dismissed the case as “nonsense”.

Last month, Harvey attacked the US Supreme Court for its rulings in two key equal marriage cases, to call the justices “clueless, immoral leadership”.
