Why did the Daily Star ‘out’ actor Charlie Condou as a gay parent given that it wasn’t a secret?
Openly gay Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou, has become involved in a confusion started by a Daily Star front page which suggested that his children were a secret, despite him regularly writing a popular column about them.
The Daily Star front page contained the headline: “Corrie star’s shock secret love children,” and accompanied a story which may have come as a surprise to the soap star, who has been a long time advocate of same-sex parenting.
Condou is one of the UK’s most outspoken campaigners for same-sex parenting, and regularly writes a column for the Guardian, in which he talks about raising his two children with his partner Cameron Laux, and his female friend Catherine Kanter who acted as a surrogate for the children.
The actor saw the funny side, however, and tweeted, jokingly suggesting that the Star had found out about other children he had secretly fathered.
He joked:
Unless of course they’ve found out about those other two children I secretly fathered….

He continued:
Right, I’d better go into work and face the music. What times the press conference @aliJcorrie ?

Condou writes a popular Guardian column about life in the three-parent family. Their son and daughter spend half their time with the same-sex couple, and half their time with their mother, Kanter.
