US: Anti-gay group announces end of three year boycott of retailer over pro gay rights stance
An adamantly anti-gay group in the US has announced it is to end its three year boycott of American retailer Home Depot over the company’s positive stance on LGBT rights.
The AFAs director of special projects, Randy Sharp has claimed that after close monitoring of the situation it can now bring its boycott of the retailer to an end.
In a statement Mr Sharp claimed: “We’re glad to report that we are suspending the boycott of The Home Depot. After monitoring the company for several months we’re satisfied that the company has withdrawn its major financial contributions to gay rights activist groups and their activities.”
A spokesperson for Home Depot responded by saying: “We haven’t made any changes to our policies for inclusion and respect of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation. We have not directed our associates to discontinue participation in Pride or other community events, and have no intention of doing so.”
The AFA headed by Bryan Fischer have consistently launched attacks on LGBT people with Mr Fischer having recently called said that drowning would be more preferable than joining the Boy Scouts after they voted to allow openly gay scout members into the organisation.
The AFA are currently also boycotting Ford, Pepsi, Campbell Soup Company, McDonald’s and Hallmark for their approach to LGBT equality.
