Sherlock star Andrew Scott to star in gay Welsh mining film ‘Pride’
Sherlock actor Andrew Scott has joined the cast of gay comedy drama film Pride, directed by Matthew Warchus.
Scott is to play the character of Gethin in the movie, which centres around a group of LGBT activists who decide to raise money to support the families of striking miners during the summer of 1984. When the National Union of Miners are embarrassed to receive their support, the activists decide to go to a Welsh mining visit to make their donation in person.
Irish-born Scott, best known for his BAFTA-winning role as Moriarty in BBC1’s Sherlock, said: “I’m delighted to be a part of it, I think it’s going to be a really special movie.”
Based on a true story, the film’s ensemble cast also includes Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine.
Filming will start in early October and take place in both London and Wales.
Scott can currently be seen in Irish comedy film The Stag.
