Fake gay couple were never removed from McDonald’s, says company
Two students, who pretended to be gay, weren’t banned or asked to leave a McDonald’s in Kingston, south-west London, the fast food chain has said.
Cameron Ford and Adam Welland decorated their table with a cloth, brought their own cutlery and plates, wine glasses, electric tea lights and flowered vase, in order to make it a “special night”.
Photos of the pair dining at the table in shirts and ties were then posted on Twitter.
Cameron tweeted: “Cheers to my beautiful boyfriend on our special night. Love you Adam.”
The teenagers tweeted that they had been told “leave or your [sic] banned”.
But on Monday afternoon it was revealed a joint Twitter account of both students had been created directly before the incident – and that neither are actually gay.
They subsequently apologised.

In a statement to PinkNews.co.uk, a McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We are aware of the two customers who dined at our Kingston restaurant on Saturday night and are pleased that we were able to offer them an affordable treat.
“We are happy to provide plastic cutlery to those customers who request it. We ask that any items brought in by customers, such as cups or plates, are used responsibly and taken away with them after use.”
