Australia: Man kills boyfriend in truck accident
An Australian truck driver accused of killing his boyfriend after he ran over him with a truck has been left “devastated” by what his lawyer says is “an accident gone wrong”.
The Courier-Mail reports 31-year-old Anthony Ronald Lancaster appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday charged with dangerous driving following the incident in Boondall, south-east Queensland on Saturday evening.
Police say Lancaster, who was driving the truck, failed to stop and his boyfriend died at the scene.
The defendant was granted bail on the condition he reports to Boondall police station every Friday.
Outside the court, lawyer Adam Magill said his client was “extremely distressed”.
“He’s devastated. He’s lost his partner and his relationship,’’ Mr Magill said. “I didn’t expect police to object to bail. It’s an accident gone wrong. It will all come out in the wash.” Mr Magill said it was too early to say how the matter would proceed. “Certainly the allegations are that he was the driver of the vehicle, someone was hit and he died at the scene – that’s about as far as I can take it at this point,” he said.
