Tory councillor defends gay rights in advertising rejection to Daily Mail
A Conservative councillor has attracted attention in his response to the Daily Mail newspaper as he declined to advertise on its website.
Nigel Fletcher, Deputy Leader of Conservatives on Greenwich Council and a former Tory policy advisor, tweeted his response to an offer to advertise with the Mail.
After noting several controversial stories criticised for the way it handled LGBT issues, Mr Fletcher declined the advertising offer.
He concluded: “As a gay businessman who works with and values immigrants and ethnic minorities, and believes in grown-up political debate that rejects the personal attacks of the gutter, I think I will decline the offer.”
I was emailed today to ask if I would like to advertise my business with the Daily Mail. This was my reply: pic.twitter.com/P83KYnIHRl

After the tweet became popular, being retweeted over 2,000 times, and favourited on Twitter almost a thousand times, Mr Fletcher tweeted again to joke that he was single.
Oh, and I’m currently single. #FormAnOrderlyQueue
