US: Jailed lesbian teen won’t apologise for underage relationship
Kaitlyn Hunt, the young jailed Florida lesbian, has spoken behind bars about having sexual relations with her former 14-year-old girlfriend and says she won’t apologise to the prosecution’s family.
She also says she wishes she could have spoken with the girl’s parents, who originally pressed charges against her and petitioned teachers to have her expelled.
“I would have respected their wishes, and I would have sat down with them and had a conversation with them and it would have been different,” she told WPTV-TV.
“I trusted her as not only my friend but my girlfriend too. I felt I got set up in multiple ways and I got hurt by her.” Hunt said.
“Not everything is over… I’m still going through this crazy thing.”
She added: “I didn’t know why I was in trouble; I didn’t really know”.
When asked if she still loved her former girlfriend, she replied: “I care about her as a person you know… because it’s someone I dated for a long time – but I don’t love her the way I did before”.
She refused to apologise to the girl’s parents for her actions on camera.
“I never was educated on dating laws and ages and stuff so I still was confused about everything,”
In May, Hunt was expelled from Sebastian River High School in Florida after being charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a child when she was aged 18.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said at the time it was wrong to view Hunt as a predator.
It was claimed Hunt had communicated with the girl via 20,000 texts.
